Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students LOVE to READ and can't get enough of it. They spend 30 minutes a day reading independently and can't wait for a read aloud. So what's the catch? Unfortunately, there is not enough space to house all the books that they go through and many exciting tales still sit in boxes and crates.
My 23 students are an extremely talented group of learners who engage in reading on a daily basis.
They love to read and truly do read to learn. They are a diverse group, yet are respectful of their differences. We are located in San Pedro, California and are a Title 1 school where at least half the students receive free or reduced lunch.
My Project
With a revolving bookstand, my students will be able to access the many other books that they have not had access to because of lack of space in our classroom. It will no longer sit in boxes collecting dust. Instead, it will feed their hunger and thirst for reading and learning and they can spin to their heart's desire until they find a book they like, EASILY. Not only will it give them access, it will open up the space in our classroom making it feel less cluttered, thus changing our room environment into a neater and friendlier learning space. Additionally, the brand new books will give students a sense of excitement to be the first one to open it up. Also, we don't currently have these titles in our classroom so that in itself can spark a new love of reading.
This project will make a huge impact in our classroom because it will give my students a wider range of books to choose from with ease.
That lowers the frustration level to zero. Additionally, no more fumbling through boxes and containers for their books, which in turn means less time wasted on searching for books and more time on the physical act of reading! These books will literally be at their fingertips.
