The more students learn, the more they will be able to do. This is why learning unlocks a world of opportunities for children. There is nothing these learners can't do if only given a good education.
This is a fantastic and diverse bunch of second graders.
They each have different learning needs and varying levels of reading skills. Over 90% of my students fall below the poverty line and receive free lunch. Given the resources, I believe that each one of these students can unlock their true potential. It is my hope that they will all develop a love of learning as they continue to become better readers in my class.
My students would really benefit from a class set of dictionaries. Dictionaries would help improve literacy as they would use them to learn new words and enhance their vocabulary. Having these dictionaries would make the books they read more accessible and improve reading comprehension. The more that they understand when they read, the more they will learn. Not only would these dictionaries help with reading, it would also help improve their writing skills. There are so many words that they will be able to learn and the more words they know, the more empowered they will be to develop their voice and tell their stories.
Books really bring a variety of experiences to the fingertips of young learners.
When they have dictionaries, they will be able to understand a larger variety of books and therefore be exposed to an even wider array of experiences through reading.
