Hooray! This project is fully funded
My sweet babes are first graders in rural Eastern Kentucky. Surrounded by mountains, my school is a community school that serves a tight-knit area. Eastern Kentucky has been ravaged by economic disadvantages, and my school, students, and community has been affected by the loss of industry. My students come from hard-working households, and come in every day, ready to learn and work hard!
My students have a desire to learn to read and open a whole new world of information!
First grade is a transitional grade and filled with new experiences, with the most important one being learning how to read. Reading gives my students such valued independence and the transition to a "big kid" is a beautiful journey.
As my firsties learn to read, accessing quality books and programs that further their reading ability is critical to their success. By using this program, my students can read at home or at school. For my students, being read to is a critical piece of developing literacy, and this program can revolutionize our literacy block!
Having access to quality literature at school and home helps create great readers!
Students will access this program during literacy centers to read and respond to literature in their journals and through differentiated questioning. Students will also access this program for morning work and DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time.
