"If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you." My students are third graders who are determined to learn how to learn. They are motivated and I want to support them with what they need to become better readers and writers.
My school is located in a high-poverty area and is not able to provide students with all the supplies that they need to succeed.
Even though my school does not have all the supplies necessary for learning, we are a level 1+ school. I want to give my students the opportunity to learn with the supplies that they deserve. I want my students to learn using all the tools that they need to achieve their learning goals. This year my classroom is full of 60 active third graders. They are very clever and I would like to provide them with materials that they need to continue building their curiosity. I want to be able to accommodate my students with the tools that they need to focus and learn in my classroom.
Today schools focus more on standardized test and prepare students for reading and math so that they can do well on the test! I want to make sure that my students are prepared, but at the same time I want them to know what is happening in our world. Social studies gets pushed to the side all the time because we have to prepare our kids for reading and math. I want to integrate social studies with reading in my classroom. This is why is an asking for Scholastic News magazines. The magazine will help my students understand about issues happening in our world. The daily comprehension notebooks will help them comprehend what they read and it will also provide them with a lot of fiction and nonfiction stories.
