Help me give my students stem activities that correlate to reading such as the Fairy Tales STEAM kit!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our school is very small, consisting of only 180 students. Most of our students come from low-income households and therefore they miss out on many experiences that other children have. They are bright young children with the want and willingness to succeed, however without the right tools, that could be difficult. Our school wants to provide them with these tools to become global leaders!
With the right resources, our school can expose the students to things they may otherwise never see!
As a librarian I am constantly trying to find engaging ways to teach my students the skills they will need in order to be successful not only in the classroom but throughout their entire life. I want to help ensure that they will become productive citizens in the world as they join the working force. Our world is becoming more fast paced each day. In order to be successful in an environment like this, my students will need to be able to think creatively and in innovative ways. The earlier that we start teaching these skills, the better we are preparing our students for success.
STEM learning is an amazing way to help build these 21st century skills my students need.
Engineering activities such as the ones I am requesting are engaging. Their excitement to work together on these activities not only challenges their minds, but is also an excellent approach to develop critical thinking skills. These kits, for example the Fairy Tale Stem Kit, will tie STEM into literacy. When their designs are unsuccessful they will learn to work with their peers while thinking outside of the box to find a solution. The STEM skills of perseverance, critical thinking, flexibility, creativity, and working cooperatively with peers are exactly what my students need in order to be successful in the future. With your support I will be able to provide these amazing learning opportunities for my students!
