My students are in love with learning!
It is clear to me that they will go above and beyond other students if they have the tools they need to succeed. I teach fifth and sixth graders who are academically gifted and talented. They are our best and our brightest. Our school is located in an urban area, and many of these students receive free or reduced lunch. My students show they have potential for great things; they challenge themselves on a daily basis to extend their learning.
Even though my students are considered academically gifted, not all are thrilled with traditional education. Many are from low income households where families struggle to pay for food and shelter, and do not have extra money for computers or the internet. I try to be innovative and creative in my teaching to keep them involved and to make them want to come to school. My goal is life long learners.
My Project
My students do a lot of STEM type of activities and exploration. They also do research and have to present their findings to their classmates. We are currently creating digital stories on topics that they are passionate about.
They need to be able to tell their stories to their peers in creative and innovative ways so that they can get the other students to be as engaged as they are.
Whether they end up coding using SCRATCH, creating podcasts or narrated videos, or even their own web pages, they need the equipment to show what they know. I need a projector, a chrome book, a printer and a document camera so that they can project and present their projects to each other.
I want kids everywhere to see the awesome things that are being done by my students! I want my kids to have the tools necessary to tell their stories to the world and with your help, we will be able to do just that!
