My students need Kindle Fire tablets with cases in the classroom because they are low, non-reading students. These will be used to build their reading and storytelling skills.
My students live in a high poverty area and they lack some of the basic necessities most people take for granted in our high-speed, technology-driven world. Some students are worried if they will be safe, warm, and fed much more than if they are successful in school.
The students that will benefit from this project are special education students with severe disabilities which include motor, behavior, and intellectual challenges that they must deal with every day.
Many do not have computers at home or smartphones to bring to class to use the school's WI-Fi. Our school is in a small fishing community that has struggled since Hurricane Katrina and the BP Oil Spill.
My Project
My students need Kindle Fire tablets with cases in the classroom to participate in technology-driven assignments. Students who do not have the ability to bring their own device to school will be able to use these tablets to build their reading and storytelling skills and love what they learn. With devices at their fingertips, the world is a blank book waiting for them to create their story on every page, even if they don't have a device of their own.
Students will be able to listen to and read stories and create and illustrate their own digital stories using apps and anything else they can dream up.
Students will have the technology readily available to them when they need it instead of waiting for the limited school supplies to be available.
