My students need a shredder, sheet protectors, daily planner, clicker and a pencil sharpener to conduct and present researches, enabling them to compete with students around the world.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Teaching for me was a calling, or so I thought, until I met, started working with, and now devote all my time to this energetic set of students I call mine. My students are from diverse backgrounds, each with unique needs, strengths, learning styles and comfort levels in various teaching concepts. They are special because of their eagerness to learn new concepts, their dedication to staying on task, and their willingness to help each other using the little instructional resources they have.
I am a strong believer in Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence approach to teaching; as such, students' instructions are differentiated so that they can all be reached at their level.
The problem here, however, is that one can only do so much with what they have.
How can we expect our students to reach their full potential if we do not provide them with the essential tools they need? My goal is to have a classroom equipped with modern mathematical technology that is student centered, one that they helped to nurture/maintain, where they are comfortable, where their academic needs are being met, they feel motivated and take responsibility for their learning.
My Project
In today's society, students need to take responsibility for their learning. Gone are the days when teachers would tell and students receive information.
Students need to find out, internalize and make sense of the world; they need discovery learning.
With these materials, students can be independent learners guided to find the information that they need. They will also have an avenue to present said information.
The wireless clicker will assist with my PowerPoint presentations during classroom learning activities. The electric pencil sharpener will ensure that each student has a sharpened pencil for writing. The document shredder will help me properly dispose of sensitive printed information and the sheet protectors can be used in presentations and preservation of researches and classroom documents.
