Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a very eclectic group of kiddos with a wide variety of needs. I work at a Title I school with predominantly English Language Learners. We are excited that this year our school qualifies to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students, and many teachers are implementing co-teaching special education and general education classes (including me!) In contrast, every year I have at least two or three students reading far above grade level, and who challenge me to go above and beyond the curriculum to meet their personal learning needs.
Despite all of the challenges these kids face, they come to school every day ready to learn.
They love science, social studies, and learning about how to use new technology (they LOVE creating Google slides presentations!) Our school has some of the most inclusive students I have ever seen - they are happy to accept and include those who are different, and are incredibly forgiving of students who need extra time or opportunities to make good choices. We are part of a wonderful community!
My Project
NASA Academy is a great program to give students additional chances to utilize science, technology, and to learn about outer space. These kits and books will allow teachers to supplement the curriculum with additional hands-on activities to keep them engaged, help them ask and answer questions, and provide them with meaningful learning experiences!
Coding robots are a fantastic resource for learning about programming!
The colors and light kit will help to explain the complex concept of the spectrum of light. The talking planetarium is an engaging way to learn more about our solar system. These kits will really help to give our students 21st century learning skills!
