Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are just turning 5. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs; many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line, and rely on our free meal plan for their child's breakfast and lunch.
Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.
Each day we practice letters, phonics and sight words. We study science, social studies, and incorporate art daily. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive, and enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of items necessary for a clean, organized and healthy environment for my students. Young children are just learning the routines and healthy practices involved when they sneeze or cough, and the soap, baby wipes, tissue and paper towels will help them keep the germs from spreading, leading to healthier children and better attendance. The Swiffer refills and brooms will help keep our floors clean after breakfast in the classroom, which will prevent falls.
I am also requesting a supply of storage boxes so that we can store leveled readers and organize our books by monthly themes.
Finding just the right books for an entire school year can be overwhelming, but with enough storage containers, the children will be able to find books on their individual reading and interest levels.
Thank you for your support in helping bring these much needed supplies to my students!
