Working in the poorest congressional district in the country, my students come in at a wide range of academic levels. They are enthusiastic and hardworking, but many have large gaps in number sense and/or basic math skills. As a teacher, I make every effort to give my students many opportunities to extend their work to higher levels and to raise the bar on their own personal expectations. They are welcome in my class for extra help or just a quiet place to work during any free periods of the day. I also strive to provide extra support for students struggling with basic skills and extra enrichment for students who are ready to take their work to the next level.
My students love learning! They thrive in an environment that is clean, organized and welcoming. As I discovered this year, many students lacked resources to start off the school year. This past year I was in a new classroom that, thanks to your donations, had almost all of the basics to help maintain this type of learning space for them. Now it's time to replenish for next year!
Cleaning supplies will help us to hopefully avoid some of the back-to-school bugs that easily get passed around and stay focused on our work!
Other items, such as dry erase markers and pencils, will help students to personalize their learning and give us the necessities we need to do our jobs successfully. Anything that you can give is appreciated!
