Help me give my students sensory tools, chewies, noise-canceling headphones, and wiggle cushions to help improve their attention. We would also appreciate social skill games and materials to help support my scholars' social skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My scholars are amazing! Every day they come to school with smiles and an eagerness to learn. We have the unique ability to also work with the families to help improve communication, academics skills, social skills, independence, and behavior.
We are in a Title I school in the state of Maryland with a high poverty rate.
Students are in their general education classroom with typical peers and receive specialized instruction to meet and support their needs. I work with students in Kindergarten and First Grade.
My Project
My students have delays in their speech, and their fine and gross motor skills, as well as their academic skills. They need to be able to use sensory tools, chewies, noise-canceling headphones, and wiggle cushions to help improve their attention. Students also have difficulty interacting with their peers and teachers and need materials to practice these skills in a safe and supportive environment. While we have some of these materials in the classroom, we do not have enough to fit the needs of the students.
My project will help to support my students' challenges with behavior, attention, and sensory issues by providing the materials and tools that would help students work off nervousness or extra energy.
These issues impact my students' ability to focus on instruction but also interact with other peers and engage in social interaction.
