We are a brand new middle school, doing our best to get the instruments we need to rock. We have guitars and a few other instruments but the one thing we really need is a drum kit. Please help me teach my students to make music a part of the rhythm of their lives.
My students are an ethnically diverse group of middle school students in an urban Massachusetts area who LOVE music.
They have a broad array of musical interests and love to share their own tastes and preferences with each other. They are engaged in instrumental ensembles, Chorus and General Music classes including Fundamentals of Music, History of Improvised Music and American Music History.
My Project
The drum kit that I am requesting would certainly change the lives of the 300 middle school students I see this year, and for many years to follow. I do my best to teach them how to make music a powerful force in their life but am limited when it comes to resources and tools. I created an interesting music curriculum, which teaches our students to love and appreciate culture and music through projects and performances but the hard part is making this happen without enough instruments. Without a drum kit, we are lacking the heart and soul of what drives music. This drum kit will give my students the opportunity to back up other performers, play in ensembles and start their own bands.
Donating towards this drum kit will make a difference in the lives of 300 students per year, for many years to come.
Not only will students be able to use this instrument to perform in bands but will also help them learn about the fundamentals of music, improvisation and the history of American music.
