My students need a document camera, a document camera extension and carrying case.

My third graders will be the college graduating class of 2027. My scholars attend a public school in a high needs school district in Massachusetts. They have inquisitive minds and a thirst for learning.
My students love inquiry based, collaborative, and exploratory learning.
My students enjoy providing each other with warm feedback to help each other grow as individuals, and scholars. Next year I will be teaching fourth grade and I look forward to leading my students through an inquiry based project that explores monarch butterfly migration. The end result will be that students publish artistic community outreach pamphlets that persuade people to grow monarch butterfly friendly gardens and inform them of how to do so.
A document camera is a versatile tool that can be used in any subject area to enlarge the modeling of important academic and art based skills. I will connect the camera to a projector to model inquiry based writing, evidence-based note taking, and interacting with text. I will also use the document camera to model how to create and revise content related artwork. For example, students may engage in a inquiry study that explores the role that the physical features of a frog play in its survival. In addition to heavy research, students would spend time drawing, critiquing and redrawing the physical features of the particular frog. A students' understanding of the academic content would be strengthened because the time they spent drawing and redrawing the frog. To bring closure to each lesson, one to three students will project their work for the class to see. Students will use the document camera to engage in whole class critiques so that those skills can be transferred to peer critique.
It is extremely difficult for most people to learn how to apply a skill if they can not see the skill up close and in action.
The use of a document camera would help strengthen the critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration of my students for many years to come.
