Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day when I write on the whiteboard, my students are distracted and confused by the writing of prior lessons that is still visible on our whiteboard. We've tried all different types of markers, erasers, and cleaners, but nothing seems to be working to erase these old lessons.
My students are funny and fantastic.
They are sweet and kind. They work hard and strive to do their best. They are creative and open-minded. They are eager and energetic. They are smart and multicultural. They are filled with wonderful potential. Their eagerness and desire to learn is so exciting. Like little sponges, they sop up everything I have to offer them. As a teacher, there is nothing better than teaching students who are hanging on your every word. I work in a Title I public school as an ELL teacher (Grades K-5). Nearly 80% of our students are receiving free or reduced price lunch and approximately 30% of the students in our school are classified as English Language Learners (ELLs).
My Project
Right now, I am changing many of my lessons so that I can avoid using the whiteboard. The board is so old that the lessons and words I have previously written on the board are permanently stuck on the board.
This whiteboard would allow my students to better be able to see and understand the day's lesson. For student's trying to learn English as a second language, my written words offer a great deal of support to the new English words they are hearing. Unlike my current whiteboard, this board is also magnetic so it will allow me to hang up different visuals that support my teaching and the students learning.
While not exciting, the privacy partitions are necessary for our upcoming state assessment. The peekaboo feature on the front will help me check in on their progress, while students are able to stay focused on the work at hand.
Although this whiteboard is expensive, it has a 15 year warranty, so this board seems well worth the price and will solve our problems for many years to come.
This whiteboard will make teaching English far more accessible for my students. My students and I would be so grateful to have a clean, legible, writing surface.
