Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Mrs. Jenks, I need your eraser again." It's getting close to the end of the year, and we are running out of supplies! My students need basic classroom materials for both this year and next year, like pencils and erasers so they can enjoy and participate in their learning.
I have a classroom of 25 students.
About 95% can be labeled as a minority, many who require special education services, many who can be labeled as English Language Learners, and many who go to homes that have very few to no school supplies. I work in a public school district that many label as 'failing,' but everyday my students fight to beat the odds and prove that they can succeed. Despite being in this 'failing' district, my students work hard to be part of a Level 1 school and prove to others that they are just as capable as any other. These students come to school excited for learning, but with more than 90% of students being considered low income, and qualifying for free or reduced lunch, they cannot afford to buy basic school supplies to support their learning both in the classroom and at home.
My Project
My students need basic supplies like notebooks, pencils, erasers, and markers to support their learning. These resources will support my students in every aspect of the curriculum. These students need pencils to complete their work, both in school and at home. We all learn from our mistakes, and we will make them, but my students need to make sure they have erasers to fix them. The students will use the crayons and markers for a variety of activities that pushes beyond reading a book, and allow them to create projects to push their thinking and learning. Much of our math learning is done as a community on white boards, and we are always looking for Expo markers that are dried out. To anchor and support our learning, we use anchor charts and create posters. The Post-It anchor chart paper will allow both myself as a teacher and students to create charts and posters. The notebooks will be used as writer's notebooks, an integral part of our writer's workshop.
Your donation will support all students in my classroom by providing them with basic school supplies that their parents cannot often afford to buy them.
By donating, you will ensure that each and every students will have all the supplies they need to do their best in 3rd grade!
