Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have two groups of energetic kindergarten students. I teach both the morning and the afternoon class. My morning class is one that struggles with academics and needs more time and resources to fully grasp a concept. My afternoon class moves at a faster pace with lots of joy and excitement for reading.
My students have a love of learning that inspires me to be the best teacher I can for them.
They love to do hands on activities and to be competitive with each other. My school is in a lower socioeconomic area of the city and some of my students come from low income homes. Some do not have the more simple things like crayons and markers available at home.
As a teacher I strive to provide that environment for my students. I want them to have everything they need in order to learn and to feel supported and challenged at the same time.

My Project
Our classroom supplies need to be updated and reliable. I know these materials will help make a difference for my students because we currently have or used to have some of these supplies. With time most of the supplies have begun to break or are just very outdated. We currently have old cardboard mailboxes to hold our folders and homework. Updating this to something more sturdy like the wood organizers will ensure that we can continue to stay organized throughout the rest of the school year and other years to come.
My group of students love our flexible seating options, if only we had enough for everyone!
We are blessed to have flexible seating in our classroom and its one of the things they are most excited about when coming to school. One of the students favorites is always the yoga ball. Unfortunately we need to replace a few balls. We currently do not have enough and a few unlucky students are forced to sit in regular chairs. Adding to our collection of yoga balls will make my students so happy because we will finally have enough for everyone during our small group time.
The magnetic tiles are always a crowd favorite as well. My students love to build with them. I've even had several students throughout the years receive some as a gift from Santa because they love them so much! But through the years these magnet tiles have really worn out and some have gone missing. Replacing these and a few other classroom supplies would really help my little builders soar!
