Every week I have the pleasure of working with some awesome students in a rural community.
My students are junior high age and are part of a fabulous special needs classroom. They are thoughtful, kind, caring, funny, and smart. My students work very hard each day to complete their work and teach us many lessons along the way as well. We are an up out of your seat classroom and our bodies crave this movement. I am hoping to build our library of sensory tools to help our students focus and give their bodies the movement and sensory awareness it so desperately needs.
My Project
Each of our students have different sensory needs, therefore, we are asking for a variety of tools to help them out. While each student has different needs, they all can benefit from using the same tools. These new tools will help the students focus and give their bodies the sensory feedback it is looking for. It is difficult for the students to concentrate on their classwork with their body telling them that it needs to be up and moving, or needs to feel a different sensation. These tools will help the students increase their independence and self-regulation while in the school environment. The weighted turtle, halo weights, and wrist weights will all help the students give their bodies some extra feedback that it is craving by providing extra weight. The wrist weights will also help improve their handwriting. The giggly ball, jiggler elephant and light up DNA ball will catch their visual attention with bright colors and keep them stimulated with various new sensations.
