I teach kindergarten in a Title I School. The children are marvelously diverse in many ways.

Many of my students live in low income areas. They look forward to coming to school because it is a place they can go to use their creativity and expand their minds. Unfortunately, many of them do not have books. The only time they are able to learn to read is at school. The materials I need will help encourage my students to read. They won't even know they're learning.

According to Robert Hillerich, just three words I, and, the account for ten percent of all words in printed English." Learning to recognize sight words by sight is critical to developing fluency in reading. Recognizing these words gives students a basic context for figuring out other words.

Once they recognize the words, they can predict with amazing accuracy what the next word will be. These materials will help my students get the right start to reading.
