I teach in a Title I school in Brooklyn, New York. My class is considered ICT with both general education students, as well as, some special education students. The class also is predominately ESL and they work very hard to try to excel in English. There are 30 students in the class and they are curious, creative, and eager to learn.
I love that my students get excited to learn and I believe this is a great opportunity for them to learn from a higher order book.
Many of my students don't get the opportunity to read novels. Many don't own books at home at all to read. I believe this book will help prepare them for next year and allow them to think like a 4th grader. They have been working very hard and deserve something enjoyable at the end of the school year while still being able to learn.
My Project
Every year I like to select a fun and enjoyable book to read together with my class. A book that takes them to an imaginary place. NYS testing will be over and the students can truly enjoy this reading. This book comes with illustrations to help offer support to students who still are struggling reading comprehension. Many of my students are also still learning English so I have asked for an audio CD which would allow students to listen to the story if they were unable to read some of the words.

By donating it will allow my students, many of which don't have books at home, the opportunity to read and listen to a fun novel. This novel will allow them to explore their imagination while continuing to learn the reading skills they need. Some of these skills include: comparing and contrasting, sequencing, making predictions, and summarizing, to name a few.
