My students need these books to participate in the 4th and 5th grade state reading bowl. After the competition, these titles will also be added to our media center collection for all students to enjoy.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This year my goal as a media specialist is to foster the love of reading for all of my students. Too many times, students are not given a choice in what they have to read for class. Many of them don't even want to pick up a book to read outside of the classroom.
Our school serves students from one of the lowest socioeconomic areas in the city.
We offer 100% free and reduced lunch to all students. My mission is to share with them many amazing books and activities that will capture their hearts and cultivate them into lifelong lovers of reading.
My Project
Every year our 4th and 5th graders anxiously await the reading bowl list for the upcoming school year. The 10 books requested through this project are the titles students must read in order to compete in our statewide annual reading bowl. These titles are Georgia Book Award winners and are chocked full of stories that are engaging, educational, and most importantly fun for students.
Our students have been competing for the last 4 years, and have continued to improve in the rankings of the competition.
I expect no less from them this year.
Your donation will allow students to be able to read these titles as part of their summer reading so we can be better prepared for the competition next school year.
