Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a municipal charter school with a student population of about 800 students. My class is made up of 22 AMAZING and diverse first graders, who have imaginations for days and a real zest for life! Like me, they are big fans of project-based learning, STEM experiments, Technology, hands-on projects, and anything that gets them actively engaged and learning!
My first graders are such a fun and sweet group of kids who love to learn and be challenged!
I love seeing their eyes light up when I tell them about new topics and projects that we are going to explore together! I absolutely LOVE my students. They are my world, so naturally I want to do everything I can do help provide them with the best education possible while they are with me. I want to equip them with the tools they need to be successful in life. When my students leave, I want them to feel confident and ready to take on the world!
My Project
We live in a world where technology is not only present, it's an essential and integral part of every day life.
Technology is the pen and the paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of the world around us, which is why we need technology in every classroom and in every student's hands.
As educators, we need to use technology in meaningful ways to connect our students to the world around them and to prepare them for the future. While using things like docucams and smartboards to bring technology into the classrooms is great, nothing can compare to 1:1 hands-on and collaborative experiences with technology. This is where the Chromebook Flips come in. I would like to get 6 Chromebook Flips for my students to use individually and collaboratively. I will use these Chromebooks to help enhance my students' digital literacy and to give them opportunities to learn how to use these devices and to show them how to collaborate on cutting edge and innovative projects, utilizing resources like Google Docs. The great thing about the Chromebook Flip is that its doubles as a laptop AND a tablet, so they will be versatile depending on our specific needs. These Chromebooks will give my students a whole new outlook and understanding of the term "hands-on" learning! Times are changing, and it's time for older generations to start working together to help pave the way for our future leaders and "techies" of tomorrow!
