My students need a color laser printer to print out essays, reports, comic books and photos.

I am a 3/4 grade teacher in a high-need, diverse area. My students are unique, creative, kind, and intelligent people. I love working with them. 12 out of 24 students in my class are learning English and 6 are receiving special services for a variety of learning disabilities. I have students from Mongolia, Somalia, Libya, Chile, Mexico, U.S., Samoa, Malaysia, Korea, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Peru, Philippines and Eritrea! We are a mini United Nations:) These children learn in a variety of ways and I try to incorporate as many hands-on and visual learning experiences as possible. Many of the students come from impoverished homes and they do not often get to work with beautiful, new things, let alone create them. I want to change that by allowing the children to create an environment that is alive with their learning and their accomplishments.

In my class, students create comic books about their human rights heroes, power point presentations on Ancient Egypt, poetry books with their illustrations scanned, and presentation papers with colorful diagrams and photos using our classroom computers. For the last few years, I've bought and maintained our class printers so my students can print and publish their papers and projects. Unfortunately, printer ink is very expensive and we often run out. Recently, I've been unable to afford color ink and our last printer broke so we haven't been able to complete our projects.

This is why I am asking for a color laser printer to share with my classroom and two others. We will network them through a router and get to print all our wonderful class work! The laser printer will last longer, look better and help several classes at once. The students will have an opportunity to see their projects come to life and to take them home to share with their families. It is a powerful and uplifting experience to make something on your own and see it published and celebrated by your peers and your family. I want to give that experience to my students.

I love my job more than anything else. I have spent countless hours and even more of my own money to create a learning environment where my students feel safe, happy and intelligent. We work hard to build our community and, even though a color printer won't solve all our problems, it will bring some beauty and light into our school and classroom. Your help will ensure that my children get to see their ideas come to life. They will be able to celebrate their accomplishments and present their studies to each other and the school. Please help us create, print and publish our learning. You can make a difference for these children and we deeply appreciate your support.
