Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Technology is invading the world and changing the way we live and learn. Unfortunately, at our school, we don't have the resources to purchase the new technological equipment.
I teach two 5th grade classes at a Title I school in Florida.
95% or more of the students at our school receive free or reduced lunch. I struggle everyday with getting the students interested and engaged in our lessons. The biggest struggle of all is working with the limited technology that we have. I am constantly playing educational videos on my computer screen and the children gather around the small screen and complain about how they can't see.
My Project
Imagine the possibilities if I could project those images on a large screen. While schools around us are equipped with the latest smartboard technologies, our school is at a slight disadvantage. Have you ever heard the expression, "A picture is worth a thousand words"? I want to be able to use that approach with my students by showing them exciting instructional videos that supplement what they are learning in class. Imagine reading about a Tsunami in class and then actually being able to see it on the screen in front of you. With a projector we will be able to explore Internet websites such as National Geographic and Time For Kids. The students will be able to watch power point presentations, look at images and videos related to what they are learning, and play online interactive educational games.
Your donation would provide the missing link to enhance the technology we do have and expand the students education beyond the textbook by allowing them to visually see what they are learning about.
This is the missing link that can take their learning to the next level.
