Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm a special education teacher working in a Title 1 School. This is a low-income area where the majority of my students are underprivileged. My school currently services approximately 8 shelters that vary from homeless to drug rehabilitation centers.
Every day, I come to work realizing that technology will move education farther and faster than ever before.
My students don't have the privilege of coming to school with technological devices and other materials of their own. Although my students face many personal challenges daily, I try to provide them with the best education possible. I want them to have access to all materials/resources that will allow them to learn and grow independently as the year evolves. My students mean the world to me! Their happiness is my happiness! With the help of the Donorschoose community, my students will have the chance to explore the innovations of the 21st century.
My Project
This printer will allow my students to work on their publishing and editing skills. As a Reading teacher, my main goal is to promote passion for reading and writing. I want my students to get a feel for publishing and help them get ready for Middle School. I want them to be motivated to edit their writing pieces and feel a sense of accomplishment when they see their final products. This can be done with a printer. Students will not only be allowed to access their technology skills via a computer, but also put their typing skills into work.Additionally, many of our classroom items need to be labeled with students names and ID numbers. We don't have access to a printer at the moment. Therefore, none of this can be done.
I want to ensure that all students that enter my classroom are exposed to a Literacy rich environment.
