My Students

My students have truly supported this music program from the beginning. The program was brought back as an academic class 4 years ago. Eight years prior, it was cut due district budgetary constraints. The program has grown from 10 kids to 260 in 4 short years. These students have set a solid foundation for the program so that it highlights some of the district's best qualities. They are eager and excited to learn more about music. We just can't keep them busy!! (It's a great problem to have.)

My Project

As stated before, our music program has grown from 10-260 kids in 4 short years. Our average ensemble rehearsal has 70-90 kids in it. This makes tuning (changing the pitch of the instrument to meet the band's pitch) very difficult. Our current tuners pick-up nearby sound and make it difficult when there are so many kids in the room. This new technology, the tuner pick-ups, use vibration of the instrument to tell the child how to change their instrument. Since it only picks up the vibration of the instrument it is attached to, it will not pick up other instruments that are currently playing. Our kids were totally fascinated by this and it was a great way to incorporate science into the music classroom. We are asking for 12 tuner pickups for our music program.
