This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class is full of ready-to-learn middle school students who are looking to grow academically and in their organizational skills. They have multiple subjects in my room and travel to other classrooms throughout the day. In my school, over 92% of students are classified as low income, 35% are English Language Learners and 25% receive Special Education services. They are motivated to succeed and love having Donor's Choose projects enhance their learning in very meaningful ways and providing students resources they otherwise would not have.
My Project
My middle school students come from a variety of backgrounds and have even more diverse diverse educational needs. In our English Language Arts class, students need a way to organize all of their handouts and practice work in a way that is easy for them to locate essential information. With binders, hole punchers, and staplers, students can sort and store this work. These binders will become their go-to for work in progress as well as a reference for their previously practiced skills so we can always spiral review.
When I talked with my students about this project, I was met with an enthusiastic "YES!!!".
Having binders helps them feel more mature and prepared for high school. My students take great pride in their work and these materials will help encourage that all year long.
