My Students

I am a special education teacher and I have students with sensory integration issues. They come to me in small groups and our room is set up with a kidney table and small chairs. Sitting around a table in a hard chair does not work for very long with them.

My students are wonderful young people who really want to learn, they just learn in a different way.

They come to me in a resource setting, and we work on skills, both behavior and academic, that they are struggling with in the classroom. Sometimes, they may be with me for 60 minutes, which seems like an eternity to them.

My Project

My students need six therapy ball chairs for sensory integration. These students have constant need for motion and movement- based sensory input. They become very fidgety after sitting in a chair for so long. The therapy chairs will allow students the ability to direct their natural kinesthetic energy and need for movement in a positive way.

If we receive the therapy ball chairs, I believe it will help my students, who have the need for movement and sensory input, to focus better on task at hand and learn and retain more.

They will be able to use the ball chairs for reading as well for their selected activity. The chairs also have small rubber feet to prevent students from rolling off. I truly believe this will have a positive impact on the learning and success of my students.
