Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach special education to grades kindergarten through fifth grade. My students are very unique; they are children who live in an urban environment but are diligently working to overcome their current circumstances. Not only are they overcoming their current circumstances, but they also have a disability. These students have been taught that they can do anything that everyone else can, but they may just do it in a different way. We are a family as we have become a team within my classroom. My students are learning social skills daily in order to be able to make an impact on someone else. I teach my students that they are indeed exceptional because they have to learn with a few more steps than others. After all, everyone is not built for the challenge.

My Project

I created this project so that my students will be able to utilize technology in the classroom. We have a Promethean board at our disposal and are unable to use it on a daily basis. Children with a disability often need to move around and have catchy songs in order to master standards. The computer will allow the classroom to be fully interactive.

An interactive classroom is more successful than a traditional classroom when it comes to students learning that have a disability.

I would love to have math strategies, math problems, and even multiplication activities to be available for use on the Promethean board.
