My students need materials to help them rise to the new higher standards of the common core. These Common Core center activities span both math and literacy content.
The Common Core State Standards are rigorous and students will need all the resources possible to meet them. Nothing is more exciting for students than new and colorful resources.
My students are an energetic and excitable group of 7 and 8 year-old.
They live in one of two small towns in rural Maine and come together at a small Pre K-4 community school of about 200 students. The local school budget has been cut multiple times over the past couple years. Meanwhile students are being asked to rise to more rigorous standards with fewer learning materials available to them.
My Project
This collection of resources includes: 140 Common Core Math & Literacy center activities with all the necessary resources for 4 students to work on any of these center activities at one time. These centers will allow students to work independently toward meeting these grade 2 standards. Also included are 14 dry erase lapboards for students to use throughout the day. Lapboards, dry erase markers and dry erase crayons are much more engaging than paper and pencil for young learners.
This project will provide a vital set of resources to a group of students who would otherwise not have access to them.
These resources will help to engage and excite my students as they work toward meeting the challenges of these new standards.
