Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are delightful, caring, and have wonderful senses of humor. In my class, some of our favorite things are laughing, problem solving during class meetings, and creating art. Everyday in my classroom is different. Energy courses through, and must be corralled into productivity. I am never bored, and am humbled by my students' creativity, perseverance, and critical thinking.
The first word that comes to mind when I think of my students, is resiliency.
As a whole, they have encountered more difficulty in their 10 years of life, than I would wish upon anyone. But through it all, they have kept their heads high. Although sometimes they struggle to make sure their basic needs are met, they still come to school ready to learn. They come ready to learn in my classroom because they are given care, safety, structure, and an invaluable opportunity to learn. Their eager and innocent faces make me smile every day, thankful that I have been put in such a humbling position.
My Project
My students use headphones in a variety of ways, mostly for literacy. Because my class has such a large range of learners, differentiating for their individual needs is essential. There are several programs that do just that. If they are not able to read an important text, they can have it read outloud to them. If they struggle with blending consonants, there is a program that teaches and allows them to practice the skill.
Who knew headphones (and the Chromebooks themselves) could be so important?
The programs they use require listening and responding. In order for them to hear their individual lessons while at the same time allowing other students to focus, headphone and Chromebooks are needed!
