Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located in an urban area. The school has an estimated enrollment of about four hundred fifty students for the 2018-2019 school year, in grades TK-5. Additionally, we house a state pre-k program. About 97.7% of the students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, and 79.4% are English language learners. The school is a dual language school, so instruction is taught in both English and Spanish.
The students at our school are wonderful children who need a little extra support to reach their goals.
Our school is located in an economically depressed area, and our school district has recently gone through a battery of budget cuts that have left us struggling to meet student needs.
We are on a mission to provide an intellectually stimulating, culturally prosperous, and socio-emotionally supportive environment for every child through collaboration and reflection between the school, parents, and community.
My Project
Our school is very much located within the pocket of a larger city. There is not much space for students to play and get the exercise their young bodies need to develop properly. We do have a concrete yard at our school for the students to play on, but we have very few pieces of equipment for them to use.
We want to provide a highly engaging activity for students while also meeting their fitness needs.
We would like to provide soccer balls to students to use to play intramural soccer games at school. We believe this will motivate students to be active as well as develop their sportsmanship, teamwork, and cooperation skills.
