Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a third grade teacher at P.S. 345 in East New York, Brooklyn, where 98% of our students receive free lunch. They are children who have the desire to learn, but are performing below grade level. First and foremost, my goal is to create an inviting, hands-on learning environment where the students can feel and touch and manipulate objects as they learn. I would like to create a math center where students can take math beyond the abstract and explore the concepts at their fingertips. My students are entitled to the same opportunities that other children have and not just a workbook that even our parents have trouble understanding. By creating this math center, students will be able to have a concrete visualization of the concepts and have fun while they are learning. I want to help students master the essential math skills that they need to know. Through action packed games from the Math Games Library, students will receive hands-on practice for specific math skills.They can, for example, solve word problems in a race through space or balance their own "bank account" through a game of deposits and withdrawals. I feel that these materials will benefit my students greatly and they will enjoy learning from them as much as I enjoy teaching them. Thank you for your time and your generosity to my students.
