My Students

My students are from a rural, poverty-stricken town in Central West Virginia. I am a PE teacher and see every student K-5 once every three days for 45 minutes each day. My students are wonderful, but come from differing backgrounds. Most of my students live below poverty level. Many are in foster care or being raised by grandparents due to the drug epidemic in the community. Many are not active due to lack of equipment and facilities. I host a Fun Run Club every year to try to curb inactivity and allow any student in grades 3rd through 5th to join.

My Project

Every year for the past 6 years, I have done a “Fun Run Club” for students in grades 3rd through 5th after school for 3 days a week 1 1/2 hour each day. I do this in order to keep the students active and off of their phones.

Although it is called the “Fun Run Club”, it involves a lot more than just running.

We have stations with a variety of activities for students to do. For example, there is an exercise station. That is where this equipment will be used for strength and endurance. The push up bar could help build muscles while the Lop and Hop could keep kids bouncing. My students love the Fun Run Club and look forward to it every year. I will continue to do it year after year so your donation will continue to keep giving well beyond this year. Will you please help us out?
