Help Us Make Learning at Home Accessible

Help me give my students reading books, dry erase boards and the school supplies they need to learn from home during this time of distance learning.

My Students

I teach in an inner-city school with a high population of immigrant students from diverse cultures and experiences. Many of my students live in poverty. They do not have the schools supplies needed to learn from home as COVID19 has required them to. Over three-quarters of our students receive free/reduced-price lunch. We have some students who are homeless and live in shelters. They have a wide range of skills and experiences. I learn from them as much as they learn from me. Their resilience and heart inspire me every day.

The moment when a student's eyes light up when they understand a concept they have been challenged with is what teachers strive for every day.

Working in the inner city can have many challenges. My students deserve to get the best education with resources that will reach their personal learning styles and enhance their knowledge to be able to reach their fullest potentials. As their teacher, I want to be able to give my students the most effective instruction to meet their individual needs.

My Project

When our school closed in March, we had no notice. We left one day and did not return the next. Our students did not have a chance to get any learning materials. I am hoping to send packages to my students to give them materials that will help them continue their learning at home while we are away from school.

My low-income students struggle to have books, paper and pencils, and other school supplies.

Sending them pencils, notebooks, and dry erase boards will allow students who do not have access to technology to complete work at home. A reading book will also ensure my students have a book to read while we are away from our school building. It is imperative that students have opportunities to practice and continue to work independently despite not being in school.
