My students are creative and innovative. We are part of a rural, close-knit community. My students are not cookie cutter learners, and greatly desire to be treated like individuals. The kids look out for each other, despite background, race, religion, or financial situation.
My students are sponges for information and opportunity, which cannot always financially be supported in our rural environment.
They own the classroom. I facilitate change and learning and make sure their voice is heard.
My students are a wide variety of learners, and they work as a well-developed community.
In an effort to help increase student engagement, I asked the students what type of literature they would like to read. The vast majority said that they love a good ghost story, despite some never really enjoying literature at all. In order to help increase student engagement and develop a passion for reading, I am asking for a class set of The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. This book is rich in literature content, as well as fantasy and ghastly elements. We will use these books in small group literature circles, giving the kids a chance to lead while exploring literature.
Thanks for considering a donation to my spook-inspired learners!
