Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a first grade teacher and love teaching all subjects but especially reading. First grade is an important year for students to learn how to read and how to enjoy it. We read to self, read to someone, and listen to reading every day.

My students are the reason I teach.

They are sweet and eager to learn. I work in a low income school where many students are not able to afford materials for school. Some of my student's parents do not speak English so they need to listen to books in English as much as possible.

My Project

I have one classroom computer that students are able to use. I have brought in my personal laptop and iPad for them to also use. Every morning group of students are able to get on the computers or iPad and listen to reading or use apps that help the students become better readers.

My students are at the age where they can develop a love for learning.

Reading and Comprehension is a key part to their success in school. If I am able to get enough headphones for the classroom then there will never be a time where I have to tell a student they can't use the computer or iPad because I don't have enough headphones. My students will be able to use a computer or iPad to work on their reading skills while they are waiting for me to call them to read in their reading groups.
