Kindergarten is such an exciting age group. They love to come to school every day and they love learning! This eagerness is one of the main reasons why kindergartners have the opportunity to make such amazing growth over the course of the school year. Many students come in knowing a limited number of letters and sounds, but by the end of the year they are reading and writing.
Learning comes to life with hands-on opportunities.
I provide learning that connects students to each other, our school, our community, and our world. Alongside our academics, we spend time learning how to regulate our own emotions, how to be a friend to others, and how to work together as a community. Our class is more than just a classroom, we are a group of people preparing to become productive citizens for our future.
My Project
A very popular station in kindergarten is the listening station! Students get the opportunity to listen to and follow along while a book is being read to them! I have spent the last two years collecting books on CDs for our class listening center. The problem is we don't have a CD player that works. Last year, a parent donated a portable CD player, but it used too many batteries and started skipping. I picked up two CD players at garage sales this summer with anticipation of being used by my students only to find out that they don't work with headphones.
We can't wait to use our books and CDs with properly working CD players.
I've seen students go to the listening station excited for a book only to find that the CD player is not working correctly and they can't hear the book. Your donations to my project would provide us with three listening stations and head phones to use along with them. Can you help bring the love of reading to my kindergarten class?
