I teach Kindergarten in an urban public school, where 90% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. The students in my classroom may be from economically disadvantaged situations, but what I see is a classroom full of potential! I feel so privileged to be their first teacher, and I want to help develop each child's natural love for learning that they bring to school every day. My students need to feel proud of their accomplishments and to develop a positive attitude for school that will set them up to succeed in all circumstances.
It is so rewarding to see their happy faces entering our classroom each day, full of excitement for the day ahead.
They love to listen to stories, play games, sing songs, and use the wonderful technology that is all new to them!
My Project
We are very fortunate to have technology in our classrooms to help our students learn for the 21st century. My children use a variety of learning programs on computers and tablets to enhance my teaching. Currently however, the children only have earbuds from the dollar store to use with this technology. The earbuds don't fit properly in their tiny ears, they break easily, and the cords get horribly tangled. Instead of using the programs and learning, the children spend most of their time in frustration trying to use these cheap earbuds. If we had durable over the ear headphones, the children would be able to get the best use out of our great classroom technology.
