This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
If I had to describe my students in five words, I would say they are inspiring, incredible, deserving, spirited and talented. I teach at a STEM magnet school in downtown Newport News, Virginia, where 100% of our students receive free lunch and breakfast. Because my students come from a low economic status, it is a struggle to get the resources needed to help them to be able to experience all that STEM has to offer. STEM (stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is problem-based learning that uses a design process to teach students about real-world problems. Each unit focuses on a particular career and engages them in hands-on collaborative learning. My students are so admirable, and it is my goal to show them how much they deserve.
My Project
My students are amazing explorers, artists, scientists and researchers. These table top light panels will take their observations and experiments to new levels and allow them to see their ideas from a whole new view.
Light play is both educational and magical.
This table will allow them to explore items from different ecosystems in detail, create and build exciting STEM challenges, trace artwork, engage in hands on math stations and so much more! How amazing will it be when they can bring in leaves and bugs from outside and set them on the panels to explore? These panels will be set up each day in a center encouraging them to use their imagination!
