Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are calm and thoughtful this year. Two of them went to preschool, so the rest of my students are starting the year with no prior knowledge of English letters and sounds. They are picking it all up so fast! My students are so excited to point out letters and colors that we've learned when they see them outside of class. I am overjoyed to be their teacher this year.
We are learning letters, colors, shapes, and numbers in order to be ready for kindergarten.
Additionally, students will be ready to conduct themselves in a way that supports learning and collaboration. Though they are learning to follow cues and direction in English, my students are still very attentive and helpful. It's a testament to their love of learning and their collaborative attitude.
My Project
Students are learning to recognize and write letters one letter at a time, and part of the way we do that is through dry erase practice sheets. Currently we have sheets in plastic gallon bags, but students are running through them and they don't erase very well, and our materials are not organized in such a way that students can easily access materials. Students love to work on their letters with dry erase boards because it's a forgiving medium-- if they make a mistake, they can erase it easily and move on. My class this year is insecure about their writing abilities, even at such a young age. Please help us to create a more consistent and authentic experience by helping us buy these dry erase pockets.
