I teach mathematics and gifted in a public middle school in rural West Virginia. Our school has a strong sense of community. Many of the children have been in classes together since kindergarten. This has allowed them to build a bond in which they both support and challenge one another daily.
My students are a lively and enthusiastic group that loves learning and challenges!
I want to provide these bright young minds with the resources they need and deserve in order to reach their fullest potential.
The students are fearless when it comes to STEM challenges and technology. This project will provide them with another tool and skill to add to their repertoire.
My Project
Help me give my students equipment that will take their projects to the next level! Within the gifted classroom, students will learn about circuits and how to solder by creating their own LED Flashlight. Students will get an introduction to electronics in this lesson. They will learn the basics of how electronics work. They will use Ohm's Law to calculate which resistors will be necessary and then they will create their circuit.
Allowing students to access new technology brings a level of excitement and engagement!
Students will learn a new skill that will possibly help them to pursue a future career. The materials will provide my class with valuable hands-on experience that will prepare them for the future. Introducing new hands-on tasks helps create better problem-solvers and future productive members of society.
