This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are first and second graders who attend an inner city school in Wisconsin. They have a variety of disabilities including significant developmental delays and learning disabilities. We work on early skills, self-help skills, fine and gross motor skills, and social-emotional skills.
Many of my students live in extreme poverty.
All receive free lunch and breakfast, and school is so much more than just learning! We provide them with a safe and nurturing environment that allows them to grow and learn.
My Project
Many of my first and second grade students come to me lacking basic reading foundational skills. In addition to struggling with phonemic awareness skills, they also struggle with phonics. Both of these skills are essential in order for students to learn to read.
These Phonics Magnetic Word Building Boards will give my students an engaging way to build their phonics and phonemic awareness skills.
I am confident my students will make progress towards their Individual Education Plan literacy goals with the use of these materials. These materials will provide a hands-on and engaging activities for my special education students to practice these skills.
