Diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. – Maya Angelou
My ESOL students come from a variety of different backgrounds.
Many of them are born in the United States. They are learning English as a second (or third) language. The majority of them are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. They are all eager to learn.
My Project
My students need four first grade collections of the King Series books. My student will use the King Series books to help improve their reading fluency and comprehension. I will use them in guided reading groups and with individual students. These books depict characters from a variety of different ethnic and racial backgrounds, which will especially get their attention.
My student will benefit from learning to read about characters that look like them.
This will help improve their confidence in and love of reading. These knowledge will help them for years to come.
