Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with 18 wonderful and inquisitive Pre-Kindergarten students in a very diverse school in Brooklyn, New York. We have children from many different cultures in our class and children with many special abilities.
Our Pre-K students love to learn new things daily!
For many of these children, it is their first year in school. They are learning about themselves, others, school rules, routines, and many new concepts in various subjects! They have many opportunities to explore what kind of learner they are and learn concepts in many different ways!
My Project
Children love animals and what better way to learn about animals, how to care for them, and encourage compassion for animals then to engage with live animals on a daily basis?
Our class would love to have caterpillars and rabbit supplies for our rabbit named Roger Rabbit!
It is so important for children to have an opportunity to engage with animals growing up. Having class pets gives children the opportunity to do this even if they can not have pets at home. Class pets not only teach children the science of animals, but also teaches them to love and care for animals, to have empathy for them, and the important responsibility of helping animals who depend on you to survive.
We currently have a black rabbit named Roger Rabbit who needs many supplies to be taken care of. He needs food, litter, toys, snacks, a harness, and storage space for all of his items. We would also like to have insects to contrast and compare how different animals grow, live, and change. We would love to have a butterfly kit to watch caterpillars grow and transform into butterflies. Then we will discuss why many animals need to be free and release them!
If you donate to this project, the children will learn many science concepts, animal facts about mammals and insects, they will learn about life cycles, about a human's responsibility to animals, and learn how to love animals! We appreciate any help you can give our class!
