Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project will benefit 25 fourth through sixth graders in after school photo club. The existing club meets weekly and students each use a point and shoot camera. They are taught a lesson and then go out and take photos for 45 minutes to reinforce the new learning and practice what they have previously learned.
Photography students need to learn to take photos with a DSLR!
My goal is to get a DSLR and guide students in small groups or one on one on how to use this Nikon D3400. Photographers in the club are at various levels. Some will work on composition and this camera has a built in guide for that. Others will practice using the camera in manual to learn depth of field and lighting techniques only available in manual. We will also be able to use a tripod for some fun group photos. This camera is fast and will allow students to capture wonderful moments as they happen.
Many photography students are bilingual and enjoy quality time spent with an adult. Photography is a skill that will help students in all aspects of life from yearbook, school projects and possibly to even become professional.
My Project
This Nikon D3400 DSLR will motivate students currently in photography club! Along with the camera, I am hoping to receive 4 memory cards. This will be an easy way for us to remember which photographer took each photograph.
Students need to use entry-level professional photography equipment to really envision what it is like to be a photographer and learn all they possibly can about photography!
They will be allowed to use this camera with adult supervision. Many options are available on this DSLR that are not included on a point and shoot camera. Photographers will be able to shoot photos in manual, take videos, and possibly have their work featured in an exhibit. One of the most exciting things will be to witness the students actually using this camera and the excitement that it will create.
