My students are children in Early Childhood Special Education, but we lack access to technology to enhance their learning! We have children who are non-verbal and with various learning needs that could be addressed with a little technology in our classroom!
The children are preschool age, 3-5 years old.
Half of our student population receives special education services, the other half is made up of non-IEP students. Read less We currently have little technology available to our students. In a technology driven world, it only makes sense to begin teaching children how to use technology during their first experience with school. We have some students who are non-verbal and would benefit greatly from educational apps available on the iPad, particularly ones to help them communicate their wants and needs independently. As we have many special education students, we have some children who have difficulty paying attention during different activities and have sensory needs. Being able to provide them with tools to meet their sensory needs will enhance their education and promote better focus during group times. We also work on a lot of fine motor skills, so items that can strengthen those will help them as they move on to elementary school.
My Project
The possibilities are endless! My students can use an iPad for communication, educational purposes, social skills/turn taking, and get exposure to technology in a technology driven world. There are so many opportunities to reach the diverse learners in my preschool classroom!
Donations to this project will improve my classroom greatly - students who are unable to communicate now will get the chance to use technology to make it possible.
Children who have special needs and cannot sit through typical activities can use the iPad to enhance their learning in an appropriate and educational format.
