My students are really excited to learn in a new way online using a platform that we used in the classroom-Seesaw. They go on every day and complete Number Corner, math, and literacy activities. I always post at least one fun activity a week. For example, for National Superhero Day, they got to take their picture and turn themselves into a superhero. They are loving virtual learning and are doing their best with what their families are able to afford to buy with many losing much of their income .
My Super Readers and Super Writers don't have the supplies at home to read and write.
I sent home some paper, pencils, and books when we left school for Spring Break not knowing they we wouldn't be back together for the rest of the school year. They lack the materials to write stories, draw pictures, and read new books throughout the week. They also don't have fun learning games to play at home. While in school, I taught them to approach learning with a Growth Mindset and they are doing that every day! I would love for them to have materials to help them continue to grow their brains!
This project will help my students learn their kindergarten snap words much quicker! They love to learn in fun, hands-on ways and would really love the idea of slapping a fly with a sight word on it. They could read the word that they slap and use it in a sentence which would help them make their learning sticky.
It would be easy for families to differentiate the game to meet the needs of their child.
They could easily add words to keep challenging their child each time that they play. My students could also practice their writing skills by picking out a fly, reading the word, and writing the word on a piece of paper.
In our weekly Google Hangouts we could play the game together for awhile so that they know the different ways that they can play the game. I will also use the game when we are back together in the classroom for many years to come in a center.
