Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love to learn. Their loving families send them to school every day ready to collaborate, make mistakes, have fun, and work hard. Most of the students at our school qualify for the free lunch program, so their families cannot support the school financially.
I want to provide my students with meaningful, hands-on learning.
Since many students are English Language Learners, they must both master academic content and a new language. This means it is critical that every moment of the day supports deep conversations and academic language as well as content standards.
My Project
I am asking for books and materials to use both during distance learning and when we return to school. The books I've selected are wonderful stories for shared reading. They feature memorable and diverse characters so that all of my students can see and be seen.
While shared reading helps us build a common base of stories and characters to guide our reading, we also need to be able to share our work!
So I am requesting an adapter that will let me use a larger monitor along with my laptop. This will enable me to see more of my students more clearly so I can see their work at a glance. When I can view what my students are doing in real-time, it's much easier to adapt my teaching to better meet their needs.
I am also asking for a set of dry erase pockets and markers. These pockets will let my students practice critical Kindergarten skills like letter formation, sketching stories, and more - without wasting endless paper. Dry erase markers do need to be regularly refreshed, so I am asking for a supply that should see us through a couple of months.
