Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
They are friendly, they work well in groups, and enjoy opportunities to share and build on what they learn in class each day.
One third of my students come from homes where their primary language is not English and there is little to no English language support available at home. A number of my students have specific learning difficulties, visual impairments, auditory impairments, and behavioral differences that require additional supports.
My Project
In Room 106 we are fortunate enough to have a LARGE collection of leveled books for the children to utilize during independent and guided reading times. What we do not have is a sturdy, mobile, organizable space to store the books in. This means the children are digging around in cardboard boxes looking for titles they haven't read, the book levels get mixed up and the books themselves get banged up. We need a solution fast!
Lakeshore has a rolling book cart that would be perfect for us.
I already have a set of book bins that fit the cart and can word process labels to meet our organizational needs. The fact that the book cart is on wheels is an added bonus for us, since we are required to move all of our furniture in and out of our classrooms during the summer so that the floors can be waxed. Wheels would help make the moving process so much easier!!!
